What are your opinions about bridge cameras?

I started this hobby last year got serious at the end of the year. My father gave me his old SX40HS, I fell in love with the camera and I'm planning to buy a mirrorless this year. Recently I did travel a bit with this camera with my gf and we loved the photos we took. But I noticed that bridge cameras were rare or not really talked about in the community, I plan to buy the SX60HS for our usual travels soon tho. Is it good to buy another bridge cam?
