When I was a teenager and got into photography I was shooting a ton of landscape and nature shots. I still do in my free time tbh. Back then I was using a canon 5DMk3 paired with some basic lens and a high end 85mm one. I only bring this up as example to what I used to be familiar with. That being said, almost 8 years have gone by since then, I don’t have any camera or lens to use besides my phone. Currently doing a ton of product photography with glass and other products, but normally shooting inside with controlled lights or outside with natural sun. I was looking into a Sony A7 III to start, the local camera shop said it’s a great body that will last me years without needed an upgrade. (Now this was mentioned to me right after I explained to them I used to use a 5Dmk3 and honestly cause of todays prices tempted to get one again. ) they said an older body with older sensor is just gonna hold me back, however I do know a lens makes more difference then the body does. Fast foward to looking at a Sony A7R 2 or A7R, unless someone thinks the R series isn’t worth the extra money at all. But I need helping picking between those bodies and a good lens to start with. I read online the older Zeiss lens give amazing color depth and tones, but lack a lot of clarity compared to the GM series Sony lens. MPB has the 7R2 body for $700 7R3 for $1.2. Zeiss lens are $400-600 vs Sony GM $800 . Really need helping on the lens, like I’ve looked at the Zeiss 24-70mm f4 or the Sony 24-70 2.8F but then there is the 16-35mm in both options. I’m at like $1.5K total not sure if I should just wait and get the slightly newer body and better lens, or older body and which lens. The Sony A9 gen 1 is tempting for the price too, but then dealing with all the A mount lens instead. I just need some help from one that has Sony experience or if you think I’m waiting my time with Sony lmk too. I know everyone has their favorite but I really only care about the color and photo quality, I want it to look crisp and good. Not showing signs of being dated tech and ect.
