Hi all - I'm fairly new to the studio lighting world, but I'm a long-time photographer. From time to time I do 'professional headshot' sessions and up until now I've been using a budget continuous LED lighting setup with shoot-through umbrellas for these sessions. But, soon I am getting a pair of strobes with Bowens mounts so I'm ready to explore the world of other lighting modifiers like octoboxes, softboxes, beauty dishes, etc...
What lighting modifiers would people recommend for professional headshots? I typically shoot just head & shoulders or at most waist up shots. I've been looking at rectangular softboxes (9x36 or 20x30 inches) to simulate window light, but I'm also looking at larger octoboxes (37" or bigger). Most of my shoots are on-site, so I'm trying to balance portability, versatility and cost - I know I'll probably eventually add more modifiers in the future, but where to start for a basic 2 light kit? The choices are a bit overwhelming to a studio newbie like myself. Any guidance/pointers would be appreciated.
