Family Photos - Resizing & Resolution?

Post Body

Hello! I am trying to organize my digital photographs. I have (old!) Adobe Photoshop CS5 & Adobe Bridge CS5, as well as Adobe Bridge 2004. I'm comfortable using/creating Actions in Photoshop to do this, but what I've never grasped is the settings for best reducing image size while maintaining photo quality.

The photos I've taken over the years are huge in size and space. For example, when open in Photoshop and when I look at Image Size, it might say 2816 px X 2112 px/Document Size 15.64 inches X 11.733 inches with a resolution of 180 px/inch. I can't see ever printing photos this large.

I'd like to resize all the photos to be 8 x 10 inches/10 x 8 inches for having them printed, or even smaller than that for most of them. I don't know if there is a way to increase the resolution to about 300 (which is what I read is good for printing, correct me if I'm wrong), and reduce the size appropriately. I completely do not understand how this all works. I appreciate in advance any help in getting this project going.
