Do I look better on phone cameras than in real life?

Post Body

Simply put after a lot time of self image issues Iโ€™m starting to actually LIKE what I see in the phone camera. Jude close up arms length selfies for now, and in the right lighting of course, but Iโ€™m actually blown away by some of them? I take my photos on Snapchat, use no filters or editing of any kind, yet I refuse to believe I actually look like that in real life.

Is there some photography magic at play that I donโ€™t know about? Do cameras generally make you look better than real life?
