I hope you'll understand the technical pixel-peeping — I know that megapickles don't make a great image — however, in my case, I do high magnification macro photography where 100% crops and trying to squeeze out every last drop of detail is the norm.
I've been entertaining the notion of switching to a XT-5 sometime in the future. I'm currently using an EOS RP (FF 24MP). Mostly, the 40MP APSC sensor gives me the idea that I will be able to get more detail out of smaller subjects (some of which are no more than 2-3mm in size).
However, when looking at side by side comparisons online, this doesn't actually seem to be the case. Here you can see how the XT-5 looks considerably softer than its 33MP rival in the EOS R7, even at the lowest ISO setting. Here you barely even need to zoom in to see the considerable difference in sharpness. One could argue that it should be attributed to the kit lens used, but this comparison shows how the X-H2, which uses the same sensor, significantly loses out on the skin texture of the model's face, even compared to the R6, which has only half the resolution (20MP)...
If I do get the XT-5, I would pair it with a Laowa lens, which are renowned for their sharpness. But from the tests above, I don't know if it would be much of an upgrade over my current system at all.
Any help or advice from someone who owns these cameras would be appreciated!
