Looking through this subreddit, this question looks like it comes up a lot. I have looked through a lot of the posts and feedback and have learned a lot. But would love further feedback for me:
About me: I am looking to pick up photography as a hobbywith a more sinceirty. I have always enjoyed it, but never owned an actual camera. I have taken most of my pictures using an iPhone 6s or 14 pro max.
My interests are mostly landscape photography and some cityscapes/urban scenes. I have included some samples of my iPhone shots. I have a few trips coming up this summer that I am hoping to prep for with taking some lessons with hopefully my new camera.
My understanding is that cameras have come a long was since DSLR’s first came out. I should be looking for mirrorless cameras. And should look for lens that don’t come stock. Over simple point and shoot offerings? Is there a certain brand that would work well for me to start off with and also grow? I would hate to have to completely restart my equipment list in a few years.
I also understand most manufactures now have apps that connect to the camera via Bluetooth/wifi? I find this appealing as I find myself never really using a personal laptop and mostly relying on my iPhone and iPad.
Budget: would love to stay under $500 but I am seeing most new options above that. Happy to explore used but may need more guidance to ensure I’m not purchasing something damaged. Willing to go to a hard ceiling for $1000.
Based on all the above, anyone have recommendations for a camera/ecosystem that would hit the following criteria: - good for landscape/cityscape or everyday life or urban shots - easy connectivity to transfer photos to my phone/ipad without needing a laptop - an ecosystem that allows me to grow and not have to completely change equipment in a few years - Aprix $500 can go up to $1000.
