Lost loved ones and the afterlife

Is it possible to communicate w a lost loved one? I lost my mother to breast cancer a few days ago and naturally Iām devastated and want nothing more than to see or talk w her again. Is it possible? All I have is some of her hair and her ashes. Iām also an utter newbie and have never cast a spell of any kind. Any info really on loved ones & the afterlife would be greatly appreciated.
