Question regarding the book's "Practical Malware Analysis" labs.

Post Body

Hello friends, I am currently going through the Practical Malware Analysis book that everyone recommends when getting into RE & Malware Analysis and I had a question. The book recommends you use a Windows XP VM, which I have installed and configured.

For the labs, it wants you to download malware from their github repository so that we can analyse them. However to do this I would require an internet connection. Is it dangerous to connect a windows XP VM to the internet? I've never used a no-longer supported OS before, so I'm not sure how risky that would be.

Does anyone have any suggestion? Anyone have any experience doing the labs in this book in a more modern time?
