Locate email addresses/email usage for a domain

I have a need to search for email addresses associated with a domain and if they are even being used at all. I found some tools through hunter.io but are there any other good tools for this sort of research? I have a client wanting to buy a domain name that's essentially being held for ransom and their argument is it's used for email services but from what I can determine that's not the case. I don't require the tool to be free.
