My Taiwanese coworker brought in taro buns into the office a few days ago and they were amazing. I wanted to copy the recipe but when i bought some taro root and cooked them up, it tasted like dirt. The taro root i purchased looked like this. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3a/Taro_root_and_crossection_of_taro_root.jpg/1920px-Taro_root_and_crossection_of_taro_root.jpg
However my gut feeling is that there's another type of taro that has purple flecs a-la the following picture https://dailycookingquest.com/img/2017/06/taro.jpg. Would i be right? and if so where do i get the "purple" taro?
TLDR: I need taro root for a dessert, and i think i need a specific kind, im guessing i could pick it up in china town but what should i ask for?
