Just want to hear some opinions from New Yorkers male/female/transgendered. Just let us know whether you moved here from somewhere else, where did you experienced cat-calling, and would you define it as street harassment.
I am from the 'hood. I lived in NYC in mostly African-American/Hispanic communities since birth. I have been cat-called since puberty. I would go to the store to buy chips and be cat-called by men. I was always told to smile, be polite and keep on walking, I don't have to acknowledge these men. Most of the time they say "good morning" or "you look beautiful"...it's not always "DAMMMN GIRL YO ASS IS FAT". I don't need a validation from a man to know my beauty and my worth but most of the time its simply a compliment. I don't see it as a problem that should be stopped, because it will not. We all have the right of freedom of speech.
Alright, sound off!
