Most of the story is in the title but Tolls By Mail has been sending me bills for a car/plate never registered/owned/operated by me passing the queens midtown tolling point. I have gone through the dispute process to which the reply was essentially that the DMV says it is registered to me and so I owe the $. The total with fees and penalties is over $800.

I've made a submission to the toll advocate and confirmed with a DMV rep the car isn't and never was registered to me. The toll advocate has yet to respond but I'm preparing for next steps if they are not helpful. I am not a NY resident and the vehicle in question is not registered in NY either.

Any helpful stories or advice?
