I am going on vacation in about a week. I made an appt at CVS to get a booster and when I went to get it, they refused me, citing that only people 65 or older could get one now.
Most pharmacies are totally out of them, because the new one is coming out "sometime in Sept". The asshole pharmacist at the CVS I went to kept repeating "just come back in a few weeks for a booster, we'll have them then!" even though I repeatedly explained to her that I was trying to get it NOW for a trip that is happening BEFORE September.
FTR, I never got the 2023-2024 version because of the following: Got boosted in mid August last year for a vacation, which meant I should get the next one in mid-Dec at the earliest. Was going to get it after New Years, but got Covid instead. Getting Covid pushed back when I should get it into May. By May, we had this trip planned and I thought to myself "well, why don't I just get the booster again in August so I'm as protected as possible for my trip?"
I have checked with all major pharmacies and urgent cares, as well as my regular doctor. I am now calling individual pharmacies. I have found a single pharmacy in PA that would do it, but it's nearly 3 hours away by car, so I am hoping to find something closer.
If anybody is aware of a pharmacy that is still doing boosters, I would be incredibly grateful for the lead.
I actually did, and she still said no.
I did just get a DM about a different CVS someone got it at in Tuesday, so I made an appointment there for tomorrow morning and if it doesn't work, I've gotten a bunch of new leads in this post.
Oh my gosh, could you tell me which one? DM? I would happily take an LIRR to one that offered them.
It's currently completely useless. That's where I started and a ton of pharmacies that say they are offering them aren't.
The other pharmacies don't have it at all. That's very different from having it and. Making up some random reason (that was mentioned nowhere when I made the appt online) to not give it to me.
That is a great idea! I hadn't thought to try major hospital yet.
My doc told me that they had everything except for Covid. It seems like most places are sending them back to get ready for the new batch. I can understand that, but it seems like there's at least a 3 week period where no boosters are available unless you're 65 or older, which seems crazy, especially in the summer when there's been an uptick in cases.
Someone gave me a tip about one in Chelsea that they just got vaxxed at, so I'm trying that one tomorrow.
But yeah, they seem to be a mess, at least at the retail level.
I don't, but we're willing to drive. I'll find the closest one and call them tomorrow. Thank you for the idea!
Most major pharmacies currently do NOT have it. I'm not getting denied, I'm getting told that they currently do not have it in stock because when they ran out recently, they decided to wait for the new one instead of getting the old one. They can't give me what they don't have.
CVS is the only place I've found that STILL has them. That's the only place that turned me down, and for a reason that did not pop up when I made the online appt, despite the fact that I entered my birthday to make the appt.
That was a few weeks ago. They don't have it now. I have called a bunch of them and they all told me that whatever they had was sent back.

You know that, I know that, the assholes at CVS also know that...and they do not give a fuck.
