What should I know if I move to NYC?
Post Body

Hello everyone. For starters, yeah, I am from Los Angeles and I've always wanted to move to New York. And depending on how my career as a paralegal goes, I could see myself moving across the country.

Frankly, I've loved the city every time I visited. My only regrets were not exploring outside of Manhattan. I was there for a cruise. So time was limited. For what it is worth, it might be beginning to break down as an Angeleno who hates driving, but I actually found walking the subway charming. But visiting is not living.

Anyhow. I try to remind myself constantly that no place is perfect and it is best to not put one place on a pedestal.

But I've lived in Los Angeles my whole life and I am admittedly itching to give life outside of LA a try. Chicago stands as a cheaper backup.

I am okay with living with roommates and am okay with living in actual co-living communities. I can accept smaller living space in general. I can also accept that me making friends is not really likely especially as I near my 30s and am fine alone. I don't expect people to be nice to me. Cordial at best.

I doubt I'll have a lot of time if I ever make the move but, I do currently volunteer at my local dog shelter. So, I'm definately open to that. I don't intend to get a pet for the next 2 to 3 years. But if I do, it won't be a big dog. Think Boston Terrier. It's unlikely. I also don't intend to have kids or get married anytime in the long term.

I'm probably one of millions asking questions. But want perspective of actual residents. Thanks and wish you a good Sunday.
