Best skyscraper to visit in the day time, and best for night time?

Visiting NYC for the first time, I was thinking of going up two different sky scrapers, one in the day, and one at night (on different days). The two I had in mind was the Empire state building as its a famous landmark, and the other was the One world observatory as its the tallest viewpoint. What one would you recommend doing in the day, and which for night?

Feel free to suggest other sky scrapers if these are not the best views, I'm also tempted to go to a restaurant in one, if you've been to several, which has the best restaurant in terms of food and service?
