I just recently learned about and visited Manhattan's only beach- Swindler 's Cove. It's about 10' x 6', all mud and nothing anyone seeking a beach would be satisfied with. But I live near it and I am kind of fascinated by the prospect of swimming off this beach.
Has anyone swam in the waters around Manhattan? It can't be lethal. You often see jet skis. They used to have the annual swim race around Manhattan (does that still exist?). Any one have experience or informed opinion on what swimming in the Harlem River would be like? Swimming the East River around Randal's Island? Seen some places on Randal's you could get in and out of water and seen people getting in up to knees and dogs playing.
I think it would be too dangerous to swim the main body of the waters as a boat could hit you or a current could take you away. But in these coves and pockets could you get away with it? Could it even be pleasant?
Thanks
