I don't use my car that often, but a few months back I experienced a series of failures to read the tag which resulted in a $100 of violations, which compounded with fees, ballooned up to over $500. I get customer service person on the phone who explains to me "sometimes they just don't read correctly" after asking if maybe my transponder was bad. The system then charges my card $1k by mistake, which she then attempts to correct. I leave the situation alone, thinking it's resolved, and get a collection for the same transactions, plus 3 more failed transponder reads.
I'm not saying it's intentional (but it's a though, having the system fail so they can tack on the failure to pay fees), but how can a system in such wide use be so dodgy? Not to mention they now want to implement the congestion pricing? What could go wrong is my response there. </rant.
