I do know that there is a coop subreddit but it’s very light in users and activity. I tried posting this to ask a lawyer with no luck too.
We own our coop. Major leak in two bedrooms. Reported in September and now in April they have sent the architect for a final inspection (they came by once in between). They told us it’s going to be a while before it gets fixed. They admitted it was one of the worse leaks in the building and that the sellers did not fully disclose the severity/ongoing nature of the leaks when we bought. We did find some other evidence of knowledge of the leaks by management long before we moved in with little or no action.
We’ve been patient (we live in NYC can handle some leaking). But part of the ceiling in our bedroom came off this morning! This is our asset we saved all our pennies to buy. My husband is concerned about the mold exposure for being human but also I’m pregnant.
I emailed the management saying I know it’s a long term project but our ceiling is falling off… no answer.
I’m pretty concerned about the damage being done behind the walls everyday but is behind the walls not my concern? If I were a homeowner I’d remedy this immediately to protect the house. Should I be concerned or if they destroy the building is that their problem?
As far as it being livable, it’s livable but the damn ceiling is falling off. We’re resilient people but at the same time I feel like this needs to be fixed and they just won’t fix it because they know they have to do major repair work on the building and so doesn’t make sense to patch ours up only for it to keep happening. I understand their point by the ceiling is falling off!
Part of me just wants to file an insurance claim and let insurance companies deal with it but I’m just not experienced to know if this is the right move?
