Hello I'm 28 and this is my first time being in shelters. First I should point out that I'm Nonbinary and very androgynous (I've been reffering to myself as the hottest they/them p*ssy in the men's shelter as a coping mechanism lol), that i have already been transferred to a permanent shelter in Manhattan, and last but not least I am completely sober since coming here with no intention of starting up again.
Questions:
1) is there any way to get them to stop making kissy noises at me? I'm new but not that new and I'm not doing any of that, or am I just confused? (Sex work is valid, sex workers deserve your respect, and you're an idiot if you think otherwise. part of my sobriety is choosing celibacy)
2) it's going to be about 7 days before I get a caseworker but I'm very serious about getting myself out of here any way to fast track this?
3) almost every queer shelter ages out at 30, and honestly I'd rather those beds go to the youths, but I need some kind of support group, any recommendations?
4) my resume/work history is a disaster (again I'm just getting sober) any recommendations? I will take almost anything that pays.
5) I have been spending most of my days in libraries, are there any other FREE places to chill at during the hours of 9am-5pm Monday-friday when im not allowed to be in here.
6) I did my HRA application the day I got here but now that I've moved I'm not sure what's going to happen to the letter I've been waiting on. Updating my address with the post office isn't an option right now since it cost money to do that ($1.50 is at least one slice of pizza). Besides calling the HRA back I'm not sure what options I have.
If I've miss any important questions please feel free to add those on with an answer. Thank you for reading this far down. Good luck be upon you and those you hold dear.
