NYC is infamous for having a rat problem, especially in popular media, as many as 3 million rats in the city.
However, there are also around 500,000 stray and feral cats on the streets of NYC.
I know some areas of NYC, like in the Bronx and Brooklyn, have more stray/feral cats than other areas of NYC. But it still seems strange that since cats are natural predators of rats, NYC has both problems...Even in the areas where there are a lot of stray/feral cats, rats seem to continue to be a big issue.
How is this the case?
Also, why does NYC have such a huge stray/feral cat problem?
