Hey NYers,

I'm taking care of my elderly mom and her apartment is well overdue for a good cleaning. She has hardwood floors and 5 or so area rugs.

I called Stanley Steamers for an estimate, and the guy was nice, asked for details, and he said it would basically be their minimum price to clean the rugs and floor.

Said OK, and they sent a couple of guys some weeks later. They showed up with no equipment whatsoever, so I figured something was up. They said they had to an estimate *now*. There was a whole shpiel about how they would have to take the area rugs away, which would take weeks, and clean the floor separately.

They emailed me the new estimate and it was over $1800. Crazy that it was practically a 4x escalation when I provided the exact same information. The guys on-site practically chuckled, seemingly knowing it was a bait and switch. Yuck.

All that being said, I'd like to get this place clean and it's way too much work for me to handle the floors alone, nevermind the carpets. we've used Majestic before for the rugs, and they have a quicker turnaround. Not sure who to reach out to for the hardwood floors.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!
