How do I invite myself to a party my neighbor's having right now?

I live in a Garden level apartment with a backyard. I was out back a few minutes ago and I heard what sounded like a really fun party happening in the next backyard. I don't know who lives there, but I popped my head over the fence to see what it was like and the vibes were cool. Would it be weird to ring their doorbell and ask if I can join? And then what would O do amidst all the strangers? i.e. would it be awkward?
