I'm flying in on Monday morning (landing at 6am) and will be looking for a place to hang out and work from my laptop for the day, and a hotel for the evening. I am traveling to Baton Rouge on Tuesday to make a surprise Halloween visit on some family, and am just killing time in New Orleans for a day solo. I'm looking for advice on the following:

1. Are there any evening activities on Monday night related to standup comedy? Open mics, amateur shows, that sort of thing. I'm not interested in theater shows or larger.

2. Barring comedy, I'll take recommendations for good spots for a martini and some local live music.

3. Most important question: I'm looking for recommendations on hotel stays for a night. I'd rather splurge on something nice and it's impossible to tell what hotels are like there, so some local opinions/recommendations would be very appreciated.
