A friend, me, and her husband all want to see a comedian coming to our city. I'm new to liking this comedian, but it's her favorite. He will be here in 5 months.
I asked her when she and her husband plan to buy their tickets. She said she'd have to wait until next month. I said ok, no problem. Let me know when you buy yours, and I'll get mine.
Less than a week later, she sends me a screenshot of 2 tickets she'd bought from someone as transfer tickets. She says she panicked and bought them because the show is selling out. I think this is very odd that the show would sell out 5 months in advance. I check Ticketmaster, and what's sold out are the seats in the 100s rows. There are tons of seats for further back, cheaper tickets that are $35. She said now it will just be me and her, as her husband has other plans. The tickets are in the 200 section, and I will need to pay her $150. I had only planned to pay about $70, maybe even less, even if I'd had to sit away from them.
So, I try to figure out how I got in this situation . I ask her, is this your husband's extra ticket since he isn't going now?
She says no. I bought them for you and me even though I knew he wasn't going
I (to myself) cannot understand why she would go ahead and buy tickets without asking me about the price.
I tell her I honestly had planned to spend less. I ask her if she can get refund (although I know she cant if it's a transfer) and see if she wants to get cheaper tickets. She says don't worry about the money. This is your Christmas gift. She insists on this.
I'm not sure what to do here...I don't really want her to buy me a $150 ticket as a "gift", but I also didn't want to spend this much. She's not a bff, but yes, a friend.
What should I do? This is 2-4 times what I planned to spend.
