Asking my girlfriend’s dad for permission, her hand in marriage.
Post Body

Very exciting news, in 2 weeks I’m going to ask my girlfriend to be my wife! She is my best friend. Im pumped, i have a ton of support from her mom, sister, and step father. I asked the 3 of them together for their blessing and we shared a beautiful moment.

With that being said, i haven’t asked her biological father. We have been together for 5 years and I’ve met him once. Mainly bc he was in town for work. My gf has seen him twice in the last decade. He’s just kinda absent and had an affair with her mom which fractured their family.

I want to ask him for permission but not really sure how to do it. This sounds mean but i don’t really care what he says. Part of me just wants to give him a heads up and just say “I’m doing this on this day, i wanted you to know, I’d appreciate your support”. Other part of me things i owe him a quick phone call. Her sister said a text would do but step dad said i should call him. I haven’t ever really had a conversation with him, at least 1:1.

If you were in my shoes, what would you say and how would you ask/tell him. Any and all advice is appreciated! Thanks!

I find this whole idea of asking parental permission kinda gross. It's your partner's decision whether she wants to marry you. Ask her.
