I am in my early 40s and I find that I don't like a lot of music like I used to. I used to jam to the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, 90s rock and so on. These days I'll fast forward through any of those songs. It's like I only enjoy some 90s country and 80s pop music. Has this happened to you? Will I eventually love Fleetwood Mac again or am I doomed to be tired of all music?
Yep. When I was a teenager I spent 3 nights a week going to hole-in-the-wall venues to watch bands play that nobody had ever heard of. I would dig through catalogs and order CDs from indie labels.
When I finally started dating in my 20s the women I dated would typically introduce me to a lot of music I wouldn't have discovered on my own (music taste was one of the main criteria for dating). Over time I got used to the women in my life curating music for me, though I would spend time listening to Pandora a lot as well.
Sometime around 30 my wife stopped listening to music and I had run out of things to listen to on my own. I started listening to NPR or just enjoying silence. Now at 40 I just listen to audiobooks all day.
