What makes you feel emotionally safe enough with a woman to open up to her about your struggles?

My question is for guys who have actually opened up. I’ve heard from a lot of guys that they won’t because women will use it against them. A man (who I’m not in a relationship with) recently opened up to me and I acknowledge that it takes courage and vulnerability.
