So I have a coworker who is essentially the epitome of “life just happens to me”. He smokes several times during the shift - talks about going home to drink a big glass of whiskey to deal with his wife always “hurt” in some way and has bad BO (brags about not showering because men don’t shower daily )
Me: I workout intensely 5 days a week, ruck, cycle hunt fish, lift —4a run kind of guy
Eat well - meditate etc
I’m not saying this to say I’m BETTER than him in any way but we just don’t align and I feel that context is vital to the situation and feedback I seek from you all
So he has asked me to help get fit - worked out 2 weeks then ghosted me on morning work outs — he asked again 6 month later I said nope figure it out yourself
Asked for meal prep help which I did then he goes back to fried chicken and takeout every day ..ok whatever that’s your prerogative..then starts complaing a few months later about gaining weight being tired and feeling like crap--while bashing my "eating the same boring shi*t every day)
Essentially - everything I do for self development he tries to attach himself to me and he ends up quitting, complaining and then ridiculing it (i.e: ooo my army man walking with weights for lunch- what you preparing for war ?)..but he went on 1 ruck with me becuase he wanted to do something to get in shape-- and quit because he was too sore for days..then the mockery started
I view him as a weak man who’s vices control him
HOW do I : Keep a good WORK relationship with this guy but also get it through to him that I see him as a weak man and to stop asking me for help because you’re a waste of time who always quits when it gets tough
You can’t come on fishing trips with me
You can’t come hunting with me
Don’t waste my time having me coach you in things I do then quit - then ridicule it
I won’t help you with a workout plan only for you to stop after 1 week with an ouchy then in 8months you ask me again because you lost the plan I gave you
TLDR: I have a coworker who is lazy, self-destructive, and constantly asks for help with fitness and life improvements but always quits or ridicules what I do. I’m active and disciplined, but I’m frustrated with his lack of commitment and respect for my time. I want to maintain a professional relationship but need to stop enabling him by refusing to offer help or include him in activities like fishing or hunting, as he never follows through and wastes my time.
