How true is "depression is part of manhood"?

Post Body

I don't know how scientifically accurate this statement may be but growing up, I have heard something along the line from my dad and uncle and recently heard it from my co-worker so I have been thinking if it's part of it and reflecting if I experience it (even if it's mild depression). Time from time, I do feel low mood, sadness and feel empty like life doesn't matter and also experience inconsistent sleeping pattern. Occasionally, I feel hopeless or lack energy. (it doesn't feel extreme to the point where I feel s****dal tho). I am not trying to self-diagnosed myself or I haven't diagnosed clinically. I just wanted to hear how much the reddit men agree with this statement or feel the same way. this would even help me understand what my male friends/family are going through and potentially better support them.
