I dated this amazing girl I met at work, but my insecurities ruined things. I found out she’d hooked up with a coworker we both knew—someone I saw every day. She claimed it was a fling before we started dating, and I believe her, but she lied when I asked about it, only to find it out from a third party, months later. And even then, I had to press her on it, I must’ve repeated the same question over and over for like 30 times during a 5-minute drive from work to the mall.
I was battling a lot at the time and even got diagnosed with OCD, which made everything feel worse. The betrayal of trust hurt more than her past. I ended things, and while I still think fondly of her, we haven’t spoken since. There’s a lot I could’ve handled better, but honesty would’ve made all the difference.
