How can you tell if a guy is settling for you? Especially in the early dating stages.

A guy I recently started seeing says he likes my kindness towards him, that I make him feel wanted and my consistency.

My ex settled for me and I'm not sure if the same thing is happening with this new guy.

New guy also claims to be attracted to me physically and says he wants to get to know me more.

Still, does him liking my consistency and how I make him feel mean he's settling for me? Help

ETA: by "setting" I mean that he doesn't really like me but he can't be alone. He finds it to be a chore to spend time with me and just tolerates me.
