Managers, how do you motivate the gen z’ers that report to you?
Post Body

Having a tough time motivating my younger employees to want to do better for themselves? I am not out of touch with the problems they face on a day to day as I’m barely a millennial at 30 years old. For more background, these are professionals working for a large publicly traded company with room for growth. I’m not sure if it’s the impact Covid had on delayed life events and maturity or if it’s simply not seeing a reason in moving up because inflation has killed the idea of the American dream. Salaried individuals that make enough in our MCOL city to afford a middle class life and I do wish I could pay them more but I don’t hold that power. I was a high performer in their positions and was rewarded with off-cycle raises and lump sum bonuses frequently and I want to do that for them as well. Good at their job, but that’s where it stops.
