I am pregnant and have a Cervical Cerclage. I live in the States and I am being seen here by an ob/gyn although I have several family members and friends who are doctors in Mexico.
My USA ob/gy suggested me to take the progesterone injections from now (24 weeks pregnant) until I am due, but these injections cost $815 plus the clinic service of getting them administrated each week. Even with insurance I would be paying around $3,000 for the shots until I cover the deductible, it is really out of our pockets.
The same medication costs just $15 in Mexico for the reason that it’s not monopolized by a single company (Makena). So my family sent me the packages and my husband is administrating them.
My big question is if I should let my doctor know that I am taking this medicine, I know he should be aware of everything I take, but at the same time he might be protected from a law suit if he does not know, since first of it all, the Makena here in the US has directions to be administrated in the clinic only (although I’ve read online about women who are taking it and they are being injected at home by their husbands just like I am) .
What do you think it will happen if I let my doctor know? Or if I don’t let him know? Will he prohibit it? Will he get mad? After all, I got prescribed by him to take these product and it’s the right thing that I’m doing it, I don’t like the feeling of hiding something from him.
