Hood latch (inside) and under hood won't pop

Hi all, I recently bought a 2009 Nissan Titan from somebody and this issue was not mentioned at all. The hood latch inside the cab and the actual release lever will not release the hood. The latch still has the cable attached to it but it feels loose and the actual mechanism under the hood won't release. Could this be an easy fix or will I need to replace the whole thing?
