Advice plz .... cooling fan on Mercedes CLK

I own a 2009 Mercedes CLK 2.2 diesel. The cooling fan has recently started coming on when the car is at idle. It starts immediately after the car starts and will then come on again , every time I stop.
I've also noticed that the car is slow to come up to operating temp.
Can anyone suggest likely reasons ? I'm wondering whether it's a faulty relay or coolant temperature sensor ?
