NH mechanics or any rust belt mechanics, is there any truth to inspections getting more strict when it comes to rust?

I dont want to make a generalization since a lot of shops standards vary, but it seems like things have shifted closer to 'i dont want to see any rust', and with road salt getting more aggressive it just makes it ohhh so much fun
