Just a forewarning, this is a long one since this has been going on for a while now, but any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!
I drive a 2006 Chrystler
So back around late summer of 2023 I was driving home from work, itās only like. 10 minute drive, it was night, and I was stopped at a light, it turned green, and I started to accelerate, but right as Iām crossing the crosswalk, the car does that thing when you are accelerating but let up some so in your seat it kinda pushes you out of your seat some, but this time itās a lot more intense, (I will call this āJoltingā for this post) only this time (and I wasnāt like accelerating fast, hardly even to 20 (35 zone) Iād say) and it does this a few times, and then the car just.. dies. Like itās as if I took the key out of the ignition, the car beeps, and shows me the Slippery Roads sign, as well as the Engine and Oil Light. It rolls to about the next crosswalk (as if it were in neutral), and the wheel, brakes, and gas are all super stiff, like they wonāt move
Stuff happens and some people help me push it into a nearby parking lot, I take the key out now and put it back in and restart it, it starts up just fine and Iām on my way home. There was no warning to this, it just happens the car was fine before
Weāll here and there throughout the next months, it occasionally Jolts on me when accelerating from a light, and very rarely even when Iām just driving, and on a rare instance it will die on me again
Now, just a few times, it will Die on me again, but as it is rolling, it Jolts real hard on me and the car runs fine once more. And every time it has always shown the oil light and engine light, as well as the āslippery roadsā sign on my dash
My stepdad and mom, him being the owner of the car, basically would travel down here and work on the car the entire day, I could not tell you what all has been fixed in it, but according to them, theyāve changed just about everything. Now that couple that helped me the first time, they suggested the spark plugs, we had those fixed, weāve changed oil, done the antifreeze, aired up tires to the correct PSI, gotten a new battery, redone the tire suspension, basically anything there is to do with cars, we have taken it to a Firestone but I donāt think they actually did anything since they decided not to do the repairs and rather just do it themselves (my step dad and mom, they didnāt want to have Firestone work on it)
And now about August (the last time they worked on it) up until last week it worked perfectly, this was when they did the battery and spark plugs, it would only do smaller jolts on me maybe once a month, but recently, I did get Quiktrip Regular Gas (I typically do I believe) and aired up the tires since winter hit, and I think the next night, coming home from work on the same street, just a little closer to my house this time, I was waiting to turn left for a sec, and it just died, no jolting, just book no more car running, just an oil light., I took the key out and redid the ignition, it worked like nothing happened, fast forward a week later, we got hit by a pretty good snow storm, my car was pretty covered but I did the best I could to uncover it from the snow, took it to work, and on my way back, Iām driving home, that same light, red, it turns green, I go, about halfway in the street it dies on me again, this time with engine light on only. I let it roll to the street so Iām not stopped in the middle of the street, park it (always have parked it before restarting it) and I try the ignition, it doesnāt wanna start, itās like if you ran out of gas and try to start it (itās on 3/4 tank), thatās the kind of sound it makes, I take the key out, wait about 2 seconds, try it again, a little struggle, but turns on and im on my way.
I get to my complexās lot, im trying to find a parking spot in the still snow covered parking spaces, and as im trying to push some snow so I can get into the spot, and it dies on me AGAIN. Same trip, this has never happened twice on the same trip before. I take key out and restart it, no struggle on it, engine light still on from before, I park it and itās currently out there right now as I type, in that same parking spot
Im just wondering what the hell is going on, we canāt figure it out, and they donāt want to pay for repairs and do it themselves.. I donāt really have a say since I donāt rent the car or anything they just let me drive it and I donāt make near enough to pay a mechanic right now, especially without them knowing I did. Im just wanting some advice please or answers, the car gives me anxiety everytime I drive it now.
(Note: if I left any details out, or any questions I didnāt explain to better understand what might be going on, please ask! Or I will make changes where needs be. And to anyone that read all this and answers, THANK YOU so so much š)
