Ok, so I have been living in a house (renting) for a few years, I had never had a problem with the area at all in fact, I fricken love it. For the past year, my two roommates and I were getting along relatively well- I mainly kept to myself due to my work schedule. The other night, an eviction notice is on our door and I was stunned because I had always paid on time and was very communicative about it. My roommate is on the lease and I am not, I had been sending them my rent. I have now come to find out that they hadn't been paying but had been pocketing both me and my other roommate's rent. Totaling up to be around 16,000 total (8,000/per person).

I called the landlord to ask if he even received anything but he hadn't. Our landlord felt so bad because he had no idea that we had paid & our roommate was pocketing it. Upon telling someone at work what was going on they advised me to file a criminal and civil charge. I have never filed anything against anyone in my life. It is not my goal to potentially send someone to jail but after having a discussion, I was told I wasn't going to get any of my money back. I am going to file but wasn't sure if anyone could give me some words of advice?
