Where to live in northern LA area for a college student?

For context Im a student and looking for a safe place to live that is not rundown or shady, preferably under 2k? Im new to La so im not sure about where is good. Im looking for anywhere from the San fernando valley to west covina is acceptable for me? Since you guys are locals can you lmk any tips or apartments that are good.
The reason for living in that area is because a lot of my rotations will be in Woodland hills, to pacoima, and west covina
