Hey I'm Greyson
I moved to the Watts area about two months ago. I live right across from the projects but not in them. Before I moved here everyone I told plus Reddit told me that this area was basically condemned and dangerous. Gang activity and stuff I guess.
So the area is kind of dingy, some homeless folks who have been here a while, and for some reason an actual police station next to the projects. The entire area is under a special enforcement zone for crime and homeless folks but I'm going to be real, this area doesn't seem that bad. It's not even the worst area I've lived in.
There's occasional gunshots and fireworks. And every weekend or random weeknight you got music bass through the night. But there aren't randos fighting on the streets and all the dudes hanging out on their cars and on the corner don't hassle you if you don't hang around. When I moved here people told me I'd be moving into some sort of apocalyptic hellhole but bro it's just working people and kids. Maybe living in the actual projects is worse?
I live close enough to have a short walk to the metro station, really convenient. When I'm hungry there's these Mexican folks who set up a late night food stand -- home I can get tacos and soup any time I want. I sometimes don't even cook dinner.
I dunno maybe I got lucky or maybe my luck is going to run out, but Watts just feels like any other Los Angeles neighborhood.
Thoughts? Thank you
Greyson
