So I live in a duplex near dtla, and im lucky enough to be paying $1,020 for a two bedroom (no joke), but there's a catch. I live underneath a single mom of two grown adult kids (30s) and one eight year old. The mom works, but the kids don't, so they pretty much blast music at full volume over a subwoofer anytime between 3am and 11pm. It's honestly driving me crazy. To make matters worse, the son casually boasts about having a gun(s) and how he doesn't care if he goes back to jail.
I tried talking to them, trying to be civil and it honestly made them louder. Not only do they blast their music, they also run laps around the apartment like they're running football drills. The floors are also hard wood, so there's that. After talking to them failed, I tried my landlord but she's not going to do anything about it because she wants us to move out so she can get rid of the rent control and raise the rent. I get it. So anything I tell her goes in one ear and out the other. Like the lady is on section 8 (no shade) and is violating all kinds of codes. Why is no one caring? Lol. I called the non emergency number at 3 am. again at 4 am, again at 5 am, then again at 8 am. Absolutely no one came.
Then, one night, I came home after hanging out with friends to burn a smelling apartment. I started investigating, and I found out someone set the water heater on fire. The back side of the building was burned along with some of the stairs. It was nothing but god who saved my cats and dog that was in the apartment. They were completely unharmed. I immediately called the landlord, and she's completely shocked and uninformed that it happened. She was confused about why I was the only person who called. Im not one to point the finger, but I feel my neighbors did it. They're always hanging around it. There were other things that I saw that also pointed in their direction that I'm not going to say, but they were suspiciously quiet that night.
My my girlfriend and I work full time, and im currently in the motion of getting a second job. I want to stay so I can continue saving for an actual home, but it's honestly dangerous at this point. ESPECIALLY when the cops won't bother, making these people feel powerful. What's weird, too, is I've always been nice to these people. Ever since I moved in, they were rude, and I never understood why. I still don't understand why. Any advice would be truly appreciated.
