LADWP Bill??

Post Body

OK, I saw a post about a very high LADWP bill. I have a similar predicament. Please donā€™t clown me too hard.

My partner and I live in a an interesting living situation. Itā€™s a house with a mother-in-law suite on the first floor, which is rented out by some random guy through our landlord. I think my landlord never got separate addresses for the two units. The mother in laws suite is basically a one bath studio. When we signed our lease we agreed to pay the random guys electric, not thinking it would be too bad. He is technically our ā€œroommateā€ on the lease. Our landlord said itā€™s all on the same meter because itā€™s ā€œone houseā€.

ā€”(Side note Iā€™m curious about the legality of this/ what my landlord is doing by not separating our house into two units- if anyone can weigh in)ā€”-

Long story short we have consistently paid over 1k every two months for electric and sanitation combined. Last month was 1.4kā€¦ we run the AC when it gets hot, have a washer / dryer/ normal appliances and use.

And there are two houses on the lot that the landlord owns- one in front of us. We thought maybe we were paying for both houses - getting robbed- but We called ladwp and they said everything was fine and we werenā€™t paying for them.

What should we do?? Is it possible to pay what we are paying for essentially a 4bd 3bath house?
