Just spent 5 days in LA and enjoyed my first trip overall. While I wasn't taken aback by the amount of traffic, wait times, or general car related experiences I had while there, I did wonder how and why there haven't been more efforts to improve the amount of cars on the roadways. I lived in Chicago for 5 years and it seems like there have been more efforts there to combat traffic congestion and parking issues.
Why doesn't (or did I completely miss) LADOT ask for things such as neighborhood parking passes with restricted parking zones to help locals have more reliable parking?
Could they not also require a city sticker similar to in Chicago, that would help monitor the number of registered city vehicles and potentially charge an additional amount to extra vehicles registered to one person?
As for public transit, is there a public interest in expanding transit lines and availability to additionally cut down on the amount of cars on the road?
I completely understand the amount of sprawl that exists in LA county, but it was thoroughly confusing that I saw no city registered parking stickers and only one single neighborhood where parking had some sort of zone restriction, and even then, it was public parking for a wide swath of the day. The lack of limitations on just who and how many cars could drive and park in the city made me feel like there were some fairly simple measures that might make at least a small improvement on the number of vehicles and general congestion. Happy to learn more, I understand I'm an outsider so I may not know the nuances of why the culture is the way it is there!
