What is the best transportation option for 40-minute commute from LAX to hotel?

Post Body

I have a trip to LA in a few weeks and my friend just told me the hotel booked is 40 minutes away from LAX where we'll be arriving from. It's in downtown LA near the convention center. We are both female and young adult. I'm from a tiny rural village and this is my first time travelling so far and to a big city. I don't really feel comfortable driving out there, so renting a car is out. I saw that there is a subway and train that can get me to the hotel but I've also heard that they can be unsafe at night. I'll be arriving at around 8pm.

Once we get to the hotel, the activities we want to do are within walking distance of a short Uber ride, so I'm mostly worried about the commute to and from the airport. So for those who have made this kind of commute before, should I just suck it up and pay the premium for a 40-minute Uber? Would it be cheaper to take the Flyaway bus to one of their stops and then meet up with an Uber from there? All suggestions welcome!

ETA: also the only flight we could get out of LA departs at 6am. Being 40 minutes from the airport, is getting an Uber even possible at that hour?

ETA: Thanks so much everyone! You guys have been so so helpful!
