Hi there,
In roughly a month I'll be flying into LA to begin a 3 month motorcycle road trip. I plan on purchasing a motorcycle from a dealership as it seems it would be easier paperwork wise. I will have a mailing address of a relative to use for registration, but I just have some questions I'm struggling to find answers to.
From the looks of it, I buy the bike, the dealership then signs over the title to me, and I then take the title to the dealership and pay the transfer fee and registration fee? Am I able to ride the bike interstate while waiting for the new title? On the California DMV website it said some dealerships can process everything in house, does that mean they can make a new title for me on the spot? Does this change if I'm buying a second hand bike with plates already?
I'm just a little confused about the entire process, is someone able to just kind of lay out the process of buying a secondhand vehicle from a dealership? I understand I'll need insurance, but that's easy enough to sort out on the spot when I purchase the bike.
Thanks
