Is the area around Sierra Madre hilly?

Moving to SM in a few months from overseas, my guardians won't always have time to give me rides, and I'm not old enough to drive so I thought I would just bike around until I could get a car...since there isn't any public transportation I could take from home to school. Plus, exercise. And my bike is collecting dust.
So the areas around Sierra Madre, Arcadia and Pasadena, are they hilly and how bike friendly? Just wanna know what to expect.
