Southern California is a huge, geographically encompassing region that includes multiple cities and metro areas, all of which are quite different from each other. Heck, LA isn't even the only major metro area in the region, as San Diego exists too. Cities like Santa Barbara and San Diego would be lumped together with LA under this definition, even though there is a ton of animosity between the cities, and they don't want to be lumped in together with us, and frankly I don't want to be lumped in together with them either. San Diego is farther geographically from LA than Philly is from NYC, and if you were to try and lump them in together as one megaregion, your average Philadelphian would try and lynch you. So why do we do the same with LA and San Diego, instead of just using "Greater LA"?
