Pre-pandemic, I sometimes used to go see early showings of films before my kid had to be picked up from school. I want to see Dune 2, and my kid absolutely does not.
Dune 2 has a 2hr 46m runtime. Add on parking, commercials/previews, leaving the parking area, etc, probably looking at a closer to a 3.5hr commitment. I can't seem to find a showing that starts early enough that would let me pick up my kid at school in Altadena at 3:15.
Are there any good movie theaters that still have morning showings, or am I doomed to a few more years of just waiting until movies I want to see are available on streaming?
This is not a "how do I find a good babysitter" post, so let's leave "why don't you just get a babysitter" or other childcare options out of the discussion -- I really, truly enjoyed occasionally going to see a movie in a nearly empty theaters at early showtimes. It always felt like a really delightful secret treat. However, I understand that the reason I liked it -- being in a nearly empty theater -- is why it's hard to find these days.
Edited to add I'm in Glassell Park, my kid's school is in Altadena.
Check out Cinemark. They have some 10/11am showing for Dune during the week.
