Iām 26F , & living in Los Angeles. I was told by AAA that the famous āyour auto insurance is cheaper after 25ā only applies if you got your drivers license at age 16. Meaning , the real hidden criteria is to have had your drivers license for 9 years before you begin to see cheaper insurance rates. No one ever told me this until now. They only ever expressed the age of 25 being significant, not the fact that itās actually holding 9 years driving experience under your belt (according to a AAA representative).
Well, I got my license at 21. This year will make only 6 years for me. Of course my first instinct was to continue getting car insurance with a parent or older sibling. Butā¦
I was also told that since Iām now 26 , my car can no longer be on a parentās insurance policy & that I have to get my own insurance policy by myself. I was told this by the same AAA representative so Iām not sure how accurate any of this information is.
Please help. I asked him how much a policy on my own would be & he quoted me over $350 a month JUST for basic liability insurance! I also have a roadside assistance membership with them , so I figured it wouldāve been abit cheaper based on that alone, but nope.
I have been financing a 2017 Audi, for reference. Payments for the car without insurance are almost $400 a month. Even though I work, I certainly canāt see myself paying almost $1000 a month towards my car by itself (or any car for that matter) if I got the insurance policy that AAA quoted me.
Any suggestions on who has cheaper options in Los Angeles ? The most I can do for insurance a month right now is no more than $200 a month & even that is going to have me penny pinching since Iām already living paycheck to paycheck until things get better financially.
Before people decide to talk trash about me living paycheck to paycheck with an Audi but not being able to afford high quality insurance, I was paying insurance fine when I was on a family memberās policy. Now that my age has changed, I had no idea that my rates would be much higher now instead of lower ā-simply due to not have a license for 9 years. I work hard every single day like most of you. Hopefully youāll be understanding before posting. Thankyou for reading this
